| 'Finally someone has dealt with one of our most sensitive subjects - how to cope with the loss of a loved pet. Kathy found herself in need of information of this kind some years ago following the death of her dog. This booklet is the result of her own experiences and her subsequent specialised training in loss and grief.
The booklet starts with the anticipation of the loss of a pet and the many questions owners need to ask their vets. It continues with a discussion of the conflicting emotions experienced during the grief process and concludes with options for euthanasia. There are suggestions to help children cope with this situation, ideas to cherish memories as well as readings and poems that offer comfort and may be used in funeral ceremonies.
References and bibliography may be of further assistance as will contacts for grief support, pet funerals (the latter particularly for Auckland based readers).
Veterinarians and support staff could also benefit from reading this very useful booklet to better enable them to support the emotional needs of clients who need extra assistance during their loss.
Kathy is available for one-to-one support to individuals or groups. Her contact details are noted on the main page.
